The Incredible Exploding Baby

Lincoln is officially 3 months old now.  We spent Friday night rotating all of his too tiny clothes out and bringing out the 3-6 month stuff.  Today he was so adorable dressed up for church that I had to take some pictures:

You'd never guess what lurks inside.

While at church, Lincoln had a total blow-out.  The type with poop all over the inside of the clothes -yet his diaper was dry.  How does that happen???  So I was thrilled with the opportunity to get to clean that up in the restroom.  Luckily I had brought an extra outfit with me!  It was insult to injury though, when we left the bathroom, and he spit-up.  Leaving a nice trail of yuck dripping down my leg.  He has skillz - that Incredible Exploding Baby.

Dance Party

We were eating dinner.  For some reason I was trying to teach the girls to pat out the rhythm to "shave and haircut, six pence" which turned into teaching them to pound and clap "We Will Rock You"  AJ started playing the music on his computer and it turned into a full-on impromptu dance party - song after song after song - all of our favorites of course, and ones you can move to.  I am no dancer of course, (read that - I fall down just walking across a level surface) but it was fun to teach the girls funny dances and just have a good time.

AJ started snapping pictures and go some funny stuff.  This is me teaching the girls to "Do the Freddie".  Does anyone remember that great scene from Troop Beverly Hills?

Allergy Testing

Emmaline had her yearly skin testing for her allergies.  I remembered to take the camera along this time so I could show what it looks like!
She tested positive to:  Cashew, Pistachio, Egg, Milk, and Salmon
Negative results for: halibut, shrimp, peanut, walnut, almond, pecan, hazelnut

So the next step is to do some bloodwork and then start up another round of challenges.  I have high hopes this year of eliminating some of these allergen!  I definitely want to do an oral challange on peanuts and fish, and then do milk again as well.

Here is how they do the testing.  They use a marker and put a dot on her back where they will put each allergen,  There is also a Histamine and Control dot.  The Histamine WILL react and the control shouldn't.  Emmaline has been scratching her back lately so they put a big circle around that spot so it wouldn't get confused with the results.  All the testing is, is a little scratch and a drop of liquid that holds whatever the allergen is.  Emmaline says it doesn't hurt but that it itches.

Camping

3 years ago we went to the church campout.  Emmaline was 2.5 and Lil was 6 months old.  We swore we would never go camping with little kids again.  We have kept that promise until this weekend!  The church campout was this weekend, but we decided to do it on our own - and in the backyard.  The kids were so excited as we put up the tent and it was hard to get them to stay out of it while we got it all set up!  They did find a lady bug to entertain themselves with for a little bit:

The first thing we did after setting up was eat dinner.  Isn't eating the most important part of camping?  Hot Dogs, Chips, Soda were all on the menu.  None of the kids have really had a lot of soda so that was a special treat.  I admit I laughed when Emmaline burped and exclaimed, "That tasted like Root Beer!"  Lincoln mostly hung out and watched the fun but even he was a lot more entertained than normal.

After dinner, Emmaline insisted that she wanted to put on a Talent Show.  It turns out that what that meant was that AJ had to "announce" them as they entered to do different tricks on the swing set. 

Idgie spent most of that time playing both in and out of the tent:

And Lincoln and I spent most of the time watching the Talent Show from the tent window.

After the Talent Show it was time for S'mores.  No open fires for us - so AJ got some charcoal going in a chimney and it actually worked out great for roasting.  Emmaline and Lil gathered the rocks themselves from around the yard to build the fire ring. 

Finally it was bed time.  The girls were wired and exhausted.  I confess we put Lincoln to bed inside and brought the baby monitor out with us.  There was no way I was doing the infant thing in a tent.  We had a round of Uno, told silly stories, made shadow pictures and then finally to bed. 

 

Lil fell asleep right after Uno but Emmaline and Idgie had a lot harder time sleeping. I got to share an air mattress with Lil. It was fun to see her wake up in the morning. I could tell she was confused at first but then suddenly she realized where she was and sat straight up and told me, "I slept well!" I asked her what she wanted for breakfast and she told me, "Marshmallows!" I suggested that maybe we have sausage and hashbrowns and juice instead. To which she agreed and then added, "and soda too!"

So overall - it wasn't too bad.  Maybe in a few years we can venture into the wild again!

(oh - and AJ is at the theater with Emmaline and Lil to see Toy Story 3 right now.  This will be Emmaline's second movie and Lil's first - I think they will like it!)

Colorado Railroad Museum

Earlier this week, an old roommate (Blake) of AJ's, and his family, came to visit.  It was a lot of fun.  They also have four kids - 3 boys and 1 girl.  So that evened things out perfectly around here!  Emmaline and their daughter are the same age and they had a blast playing together.   One of the days, AJ and Blake took a few of the kids to the Colorado Railraid Museum in Golden.  Liliana was the only one of our kids to go and from what I hear - she enjoyed herself.  Here she is driving a train and then posing with Daddy!

Happy Birthday Idgie!

I feel like we spent days celebrating Idgie's second birthday!  And we've been so busy the last few days I haven't even had a chance to post this until now.

Two years ago Idgie burst into the world.
Last year we promised her that we would only have a Red, White, and Blue birthday for her 1st birthday.

And here she is blowing out the candles for her second year!  She really did get the candles out herself too! 

So here is the rundown of days and days of celebrating.

On Friday night we went out to dinner at Johnny Carinos.  Idgie loves spaghetti and we had coupons and we discovered that Emmaline could eat a few things there.  (That was a treat all by itself!  We called the manager and he helped us over the phone figure out what we could have and they were so great to us!)

Then on Saturday we went to the Children's Museum just like we did for Liliana's 2nd birthday.

Idgie loved both the Fire Engine and the Grocery Store the most.  She was content to just sit in the Fire Engine for the longest time.  Here she is looking out the window:

Emmaline spent quite awhile with AJ in the Recycling center where they could build things out of cardboard boxes and water bottles, etc, etc etc.  They made a train:

On Sunday was Idgie's actual birthday. We knew Idgie was definitely two years old because she woke up in a MOOD.  It was "no" to everything.  "No Cake!"  "No Presents!"  "No TWO!"  I would say her favorite gift so far is a cup that Liliana picked out for her!

We love you Idgie!

Fox

Remember Fred? Well he was missing for a few months, but now has been back!  He sleeps in our yard several times a week.  The problem is that the kids want to play outside with all the nice weather.  I feel bad chasing him off, but I don't want the kids to play in the yard with a fox sleeping there either!  Today AJ got a good snapshot of him as he jumped over the fence to run away.  The spot where he is sitting is where the fences of four yards meet and you could see him actually looking in each yard trying to decide which one to go into.  If  you pretend the yards are the Four Corners - and our house was New Mexico - then he ultimately opted to head on over into Colorado.
