Since Lil turned 5 this year, it was a birthday party year for her. She had some very specific requests. She wanted it to be ladybug themed, and she wanted an ice cream cake. As luck would have it, a ladybug theme was an excellent choice because we are so close to Valentine's Day that it was easy to get cute red things for decorating.
When each girl arrived, they each got their own set of antenna and each got to sit down and create their own puzzle.
After that, we had the traditional games of Pin-the-Dot-on-the-Ladybug, musical chairs, and a pinata. Liliana was the jokster during the ladybug game, purposefully heading off into all kinds of crazy directions just to get a laugh.
While the kids all enjoyed those things, the biggest hit was the simplest thing of all. Never, ever underestimate the power of one balloon per child.
Lil was thrilled to get her ice cream cake and we were even able to get the bakery to put a couple of ladybugs on it.
And at the end, each girl got to go home with a goody basket which included their puzzle and a book from barebooks.com, crayons, stickers, treats from the pinata, and of course their balloon and antenna.
One of the little girls said, "this is the best afternoon EVER!" So we managed to pass the expectations of a bunch of 5 year olds!!
