Sick Days and Homework

So on Wednesday Emmaline started to feel sick. She complained of a sore throat all day but that was about it. Luckily we got a huge snowstorm in the night so it was a snow day off from school anyway! Then on Thursday she no longer complained of her throat, but was throwing up - so she ended up staying home sick from school. By that evening she seemed to be doing much better so I let her stay up late to finish up her homework that we have been procrastinating for sometime and was due today. A couple of funny things came out of that homework but I'll get to that in a minute! Then somewhere in the night, she started complaining about her ears, and by this morning, she was holding her hands over both ears and weeping and wailing in pain. Well - that meant another day home sick from school! She was pretty devastated since they were going to have a class party today! We gave her some Motrin and once that kicked in, she no longer complained of pain but kept talking about how it felt like she had a "bubble in her ear". And she wanted to know why her voice sounded so funny! Clearly her ears were still all plugged up.
We went to the doctor and she has strep throat and an ear infection. Lovely. At least we know we were right to keep her home! The good news is that next week is Spring Break so she has plenty of time to get better!

Now for a couple of funnies about her homework:

One assignment was to decorate a picture of an Easter Egg (just by coloring) and then write two sentences about it. She didn't understand what to do! I had to actually explain to her about how people decorate Easter Eggs! Since she is allergic to eggs it is an activity we have never done with her and she didn't know a thing about it!

Another assignment had her complete the sentence: If I found a pot of gold, I would buy . . .
Well you would think she'd write a pony or jewels or something. But not my girl. She wrote that she would buy tuna and cucumbers and then she would make a tuna fish sandwich.

And one more random funny from Emmaline that has nothing to do with homework. We were talking today about how girls are beautiful and boys are handsome. I said to her: "Isn't Daddy handsome?" and she replied, "no" I asked her why not and she explained that he isn't handsome because he's a Daddy. So there you go. Apparently daddies can't be handsome!
